The best way to create bends in copper tube is to use a specialist tool, called a pipe bender. Most pipe benders are designed for a number of pipe diameters: the small ones usually do 8, 10 and 12mm pipe, whilst a larger are for 15 and 22 mm. If you need to bend copper tube wider than this you either need to dedicate a considerable amount of time to increasing your strength or alternatively you should really buy an expensive powered bender, or just accept the copper tube above 22mm doesn’t like being bent and use fittings instead. Hither Green Plumbers use pipe bending equipment.

Using a pipe bender for microbore.

The small benders are used for microbore copper tube. This comes in roles and can often be bent by hand. However, to get a sharper, cleaner bend you’ll need a bending machine. Microbore is a pipe, usually 8-10mm in size and is commonly used in central heating systems and its main advantage is the very low heat loss by water passing through it. It is also really flexible to run. A Hither Green Plumber is experienced in pie bending techniques.
1). Open the bender fully so the arms are at 180° to each other and slide the copper tube between the arms, making sure it goes under the retaining arm and into the right sized channel. Now bend the top so that it is parallel with the pipe, which the grooves have now enclosed. Start drawing the top arm down to start the bend. Pull the arms together in one continuous movement until the correct angle is achieved. Open the arms again to release the bent tube and remove from the bender.

Note:
There is a bender that will bend other sized copper pipe i.e. 15-22mm.
